Prominent construction company provides extensive storm damage restoration throughout Northeast

Burke, Va. – Venture Construction Group rapidly responds with emergency storm damage repairs after hailstorms wreaked havoc through Maryland, Northern Virginia, and the D.C. metro area on May 2. Although hailstorms are common in many parts of Virginia and Maryland, they are very rare and unusual in D.C., according to then Washington Post. The same storm also ravaged Rockville in Montgomery County, Maryland. A separate hail storm hit areas around Woodbridge, Dale City, and Manassas in Prince William County, Virginia, and Charles County, Maryland. A third intense storm devastated Fairfax County, the District and northern Prince George’s County, Virginia.

“These large hailstones require intense thunderstorm updrafts, on the order of 80 mph, to support their growth. The high-end instability needed for such updrafts are more common in the Plains states than mid-Atlantic states,” says Jon Erdman, Weather.com meteorologist. “In general, baseball-sized hail is sufficient to smash vehicle windshields. If driven by strong thunderstorm winds, they are capable of much more damage, including to siding of homes, roofs, and smashing home windows.”

According to the Washington Post, the storm’s devastating effects were caused because the storm was a supercell. Only about 25% of supercell storms develop into tornados, however the strong updraft caused by these storms creates the perfect environment for hail to grow by sweeping the hail upward to cooler temperatures. Hail in Rockville reached up to an astounding 2.5 inches in diameter, the largest on record in Montgomery County. The storms also carried harsh winds and heavy rain, causing numerous uproots to trees that damaged cars, houses, and roads. Devastating floods also ravaged the D.C. area, leaving over 7,000 people without power.

“We’re providing extensive emergency services, free property inspections, and storm damage repairs throughout Virginia, D.C. and Maryland. Hail damage can be quite severe and leads to future structural damage, leaks, and property value loss,” says Stephen Shanton, CEO of Venture Construction Group.
