Nationwide Restoration Company Promotes Health and Safety Amidst Global Health Scare
Washington, D.C. – In a statement issued on March 7, the Property and Liability Resource Bureau (PLRB) canceled their conference planned for March 8-11 at the Gaylord National Hotel after discovering that someone tested positive for coronavirus the week prior. The virus has been named “SARS-CoV-2”, and the disease it causes has been named “coronavirus disease 2019”, abbreviated “COVID-19”. Venture Construction Group (VCG) is an avid supporter of the mission and work of PLRB, and supports their heightened level of caution during this epidemic. VCG planned to be a Diamond Event Sponsor and exhibit at the expo.
“The decision to cancel was not an easy one. We know that many people were disappointed while many others were relieved. At the end of the day, the decision was based on concerns for the health and safety of the participants and others which is our top priority when holding events,” says Tom O’Dowd, senior marketing and exhibits manager, PLRB.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the virus spreads from person-to-person, between people who are in close contact with one another, generally within 6 feet, and through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs. Some spread might be possible before people show symptoms. It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes.
In late February, CDC’s Dr. Nancy Messonnier said, “The fact that this virus has caused illness — including illness that has resulted in death — and sustained person-to-person spread is concerning. These factors meet two of the criteria for a pandemic.”
According to the latest report from the New York Times on March 13, at least 1,714 people in 47 states and Washington, D.C. have tested positive for coronavirus, and at least 41 patients with the virus have died. At the start of this month, 70 cases had been reported in this country, most of them tied to overseas travel. Since then, new cases have poured in, first by the dozens, then the hundreds. According to a report by CNN, there are now over 125,000 cases globally. Travel restrictions into the US go into effect today on March 13. Leaders across the country are banning public gatherings and sports leagues have suspended their seasons.
VCG is providing work-at-home options for administrative staff members throughout the country, and safety sanitization programs are being utilized on all jobsites and equipment.
The PLRB Claims Conference and Insurance Services Expo is a four-day conference that provides access to 14 education tracks with 100 sessions taught by industry leaders. Industry professionals and service providers from all over the U.S. attend.
